There are currently two types of Lasting Power of Attorney documents available these are for Property and Financial Affairs and Health and Welfare. These documents can only be taken out when you have the necessary capacity to give instructions and understand the nature of your actions.
Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to give authority to the people you trust to deal with your financial affairs and health decisions for you on your behalf if you are unable to make these decisions yourself. They are legal recognised documents that help your loved ones deal with anything that you would normally deal with on a day to day basis.
Should your health deteriorate and you are unable to give instructions or you do not have a Lasting Power of Attorney then Court of Protection control can be applied for, but this can end up with months of financial hardship, expensive legal fees and lengthy problems for your loved ones.
